As far as I understand 0 is allowed in the last dimension only.
But it shouldn't crash as in your case...<br>

I have try using
layout[0] = 2;
layout[1] = 0;
and
layout[0] = 0;
layout[1] = 2;
In this case the program crashes which is very strange i think.
